valentine wreath

As my mother said, "This is the year of the wreaths." Now that I'm living in a new place, my old holiday decorations don't necessarily work (for instance, my old Christmas wreath looked terrible on our door due to the color of the door, so I made this). I'm having a lot of fun making these wreaths even though wreath-making has never really interested me. This was a very simple and forgiving (I was able to move the flowers when I placed a couple too close together), and I am very happy with the results.

Do you keep holiday wreaths on your door year-round? Do you do anything to decorate your house for Valentine's Day?

favorite blogs*

Fashion
Photobucket
This is one of my favorite blogs. Emily has a fun style, she posts great recipes and DIY projects, and she lives in LA, so I like to check out the restaurants that she recommends.

Photobucket
Kelly has AMAZING style (like, seriously, this is how I want to dress). Her wardrobe is impeccable, and her NYC apartment is to die for (like, how I would decorate if I were still a single girl).
Photobucket
Alix has a sweet style and she has an amazing eye for detail. Her posts are amazing sources for inspiration. And, she lives in Paris...

Interior Decorating
Photobucket Another one of my favorite blogs. I love Bryn's style. I would really like to hire her to help me with some of the (okay, all of the) rooms in our condo.

Lifestyle
Photobucket
I've been following this blog forEVER. I love the glimpse into their day-to-day life in Brooklyn. I've also ordered the espresso brownies from their Etsy shop, and they were too good!
Photobucket
Emily posts the greatest DIY and craft projects. Her house is adorable, and so are her four kids. Plus, she's a Christian business woman, so it's a lot of fun for me to follow.

Photobucket
Jen is another Christian business woman! She makes amazing cards and prints (I would like this one for our bedroom).

Photobucket
A glimpse into the remodel project of a house that is over 100 years old. Nicole is so creative and I love the little projects (like 30 before 30) that she does for herself.
Pets
Photobucket
Of course Martha Stewart's dogs can blog! This is such a cute dialogue between Francesca and Sharkey--it cracks me up all the time.

Food
Photobucket I'm not much of one for crazy recipes (I get nervous if there are more than 7 ingredients), but this blog has beautiful pictures. I "star" almost every single post in my Google Reader because they all look so delicious.

I hope you enjoy these blogs as much as I do!

My parents flew down to spend the long weekend with us. I was so excited and had a whole list of things that I wanted to take them to do while they were here. Unfortunately, J and I woke up Thursday morning feeling AWFUL. Needless to say, we spent a lot of time watching football and napping.

Fortunately, the weather was gorgeous in Orange County over the weekend. We did manage to take advantage of the weather and get out to the beach. It was such a beautiful day. Newport is one of my favorite beaches down here. I love all of the architecture. J and I definitely need to make a point to get to the beach more...

taco tuesday

What is it about tacos that is just so good? I love tacos. Seriously, I think I could eat tacos every single day and not get tired of them. Fortunately, my hubby shares my love for them, so we decided to make Taco Tuesday a regular occurrence in our house in 2011. Mmmm...turkey, avocado, cheese, and hot sauce....

I figured out how to take close-up photos with my new camera last night! I was so excited about it that I took about 50 pictures of my tacos before I ate them (and ended up with a cold dinner...). I'm slowly learning some of the functions on the camera, but I have yet to venture into using either of the lenses that I have right now. Hopefully I'll get a chance to play with them a little bit when my parents are here this weekend!

lazy sunday morning

During football season, Justin has a job that involves watching football games which means that he gets paid to do something that he'd be doing anyway. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all had a jobs like that? Since the regular football season is over, Justin was home this past Sunday morning. We took full advantage of having nothing to do and let Chloe play in our bed so that we could spend some extra time being lazy.

Justin is so sweet with this mischievous little creature who occupies our home; I'm glad that I have some of these moments caught on film.

chili-crusted salmon

Photobucket
the 5 ingredients

spice mixture

salmon frying in extra virgin olive oil
Photobucket
chili-crusted salmon served with quinoa and steamed broccoli

This is one of my favorite recipes, and it also happens to be one of Justin's favorites. I adapted it from this Real Simple recipe.

Ingredients:
3 T. chili powder
1 t. dried oregano
1/2 t. kosher salt
2 salmon fillets
1 1/2 T. extra virgin olive oil

Instructions:
In a small bowl mix together chili powder, dried oregano, and kosher salt. Place the salmon fillets on a cutting board and pat the spice mixture onto the fillets forming a sort of crust. Pour the olive oil into a frying pan and set to low to medium heat. Place chili-crusted salmon fillets in the pan and cook about 4 minutes per side until fish is done but not over-cooked.

casa de angevine: dining area

Photobucket
Forgive me for posting these terrible pictures of our dining area. We've had a crazy week involving counterfeit checks and filing my first police report, so I still haven't get our Christmas decorations packed up and stored in the garage. But, this is our dining area. When you walk into our condo, you walk into a big open space which includes our entry, living room, dining area, and kitchen.
Photobucket
This is the view from the front door looking into the kitchen. See that light fixture? Well, that is why I am posting these pictures of my messy dining area tonight. I really dislike that light fixture, and I'm ready to break up with it and let a new one move into my dining area.

I've been pining for this Globe Pendant from West Elm for quite some time now:
Photobucket
I like this fixture because it has a very clean and modern feel. I also like that the globe is made of clear glass which I feel would be good for the space because it is pretty small.

But, then I saw this DIY project on design*sponge today
Photobucket
I would prefer the wider end of the drum to be facing downward, but I really like this because it it also clean and modern, but would add a graphic print to our very neutral space.

By the way, to help set the feel of where this room is going, the green table currently in the room is going. I plan to replace it with something like this Parsons Dining Table (aslo from West Elm). I am going to keep the red IKEA Stefan chairs, but I am going to paint them a soft creamy white/ivory.
Photobucket
So, what do you think? Should I go with the globe pendant or the DIY drum shade?

no bake cookies

Photobucket
This is one of my family's favorite cookie recipes. I made them for Justin for the first time last night in our little condo. These "cookies" are like candy and can be affected by the weather, and it was pouring rain in Orange County last night. I was afraid that they wouldn't turn out, but they were perfect! I feel like my kitchen is officially christened now that I've made these in it.

Here is the recipe:

1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. milk
1/3 c. cocoa powder
2 c. sugar
1 t. vanilla
1/2 c. peanut butter
3 c. oatmeal

Directions: Combine the first 4 ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat and bring to a boil. Boil for 2-3 minutes. Add vanilla, peanut butter, and oatmeal and combine thoroughly. Drop mixture by teaspoonfuls onto wax paper and allow to cool.

My mom said that they make 2 dozen large or 3 dozen small cookies. I guess I made 1 dozen extra large cookies...

What are your family's favorite sweet treats?

2011 theme quote

Photobucket(via weheartit.com)
“You can have anything you want - if you want it badly enough. You
can be anything you want to be, do anything you set out to accomplish if you
hold to that desire with singleness of purpose.”
Abraham Lincoln

Every year I pick a quote to be my theme for the year. This year is going to be a year of less talk and more action.
