A Pollock-y quote

"Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint you can on it." Danny Kaye

Because Google told me it was his birthday

I love Jackson Pollock's art. I find it inspiring because he dared to imagine that art could be something different and that it could mean different things to different people.

My favorite Disney movie

"Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep
moving forward
, opening up new doors and doing new things... and
curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."

Walt Disney

Mangy Eye

I'm definitely going to spare everyone a picture for this topic. Last night, I woke up in the middle of the night, went into the bathroom, and I rubbed my right eye for some reason. Well, after rubbing my eye, I could not open it anymore. I assumed that something must have been on my eye and that I scratched it. I went to bed and prayed that my eye would be fine in the morning so that I could go to work and then go to Kathy's for chicken wings and Rock Band tonight. But, no such luck. Apparently I was supposed to stay home and do nothing today (I did actually get one thing on my to do list for today done).

I made an appointment with my optometrist and she's not sure what is going on in my eye, but the good news is that I did not scratch it, and that she prescribed me some steroid/antibiotic eye drops to treat whatever is going on in there. The bad news is that she dilated my eye, so now I look kind of freaky and have to wear sunglasses everywhere around light because my eye was already sensitive to the light in the first place. More good news! The eye drops only cost me $5 and after 4 hours and two drops, my eye is already feeling a lot better. Also, I am eternally grateful to Jen for driving to to my appointment, then to pick up my prescription, then to get some lunch. I have been truly blessed with some amazing friends.

Ugh--I really hate being sick on any level.

Okay, so it wasn't so bad.

Today was the first day back at classes (hopefully I'll only have one more first day of classes!). So far none of my classes seem anywhere near as bad as the ones I had to take last semester. The only thing that I'm kind of bummed about is that I have to play (and pay) for another online simulation game where I am the owner of a company that manufactures athletic shoes (can't these people come up with anything else?). The only class that might be pointless and irrelevant is IS 301, and I have that class with Nick so we'll have fun regardless.

It was a lot of fun to see everyone again and catch up on what we all did for our four and a half weeks of vacation.

Semester resolution: I will not wait until the last minute to work on everything. I will be organized.

I am really dreading going back to school tomorrow. I now completely understand why a person would drop out of college during their senior year--it's almost unbearable! I could really use just one more week of break...

How I feel right now:

Alice & the Cheshire Cat
maria's photography: Annie Leibovitz

“One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree.

“Which road do I take?” she asked.

“Where do you want to go?” was his response.

“I don’t know,” Alice answered.

“Then,” said the cat, “it doesn’t matter."

I've been seeing a lot of Alice in Wonderland quotes all over the place lately. Maybe I'll have to pick that up and read it again once I finish Julie.

An unexpected source...

"I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems
don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end.
Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the
best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next. Delicious Ambiguity."

Another Lazy Sunday

I have had a nasty cold since last Saturday/Sunday, and I am over it. I need to be healthy again. After spending the whole night coughing instead of sleeping, I realized that there was no way I was going to make it through a church service this morning (I would have either fallen asleep or coughed so much that I would have left anyway), so I decided to spend the entire day in bed watching episodes of Jericho on my laptop between naps.

Well, that got old pretty quick (okay, so it was 3:30pm), so I met up with Jen at Starbuck's while Karl got his haircut, then we ended up grabbing one of the new Papa Murphy's pizzas (which was really good) and having dinner together at Jen & Karl's beautiful house. : )

I actually feel like I was fairly productive today. I cleaned my bathroom, fixed my bed, changed my sheets, washed my hair, packed my lunch for tomorrow, and even tidied up my room a bit. Not too shabby all things considered. And, I feel about 90% better than I did yesterday. Hopefully tomorrow I will cough my last cough.

Did hell just freeze over?

Seen any flying pigs lately? Well, the New York Times did just publish this, so keep your eyes open! Thanks for e-mailing this article to me, Kimbra!

So far, I'm loving my new calendar!

Because it reminded me of something that I need to add to my bucket list! Ever since I read the Nancy Drew book where she visits the cliff dwellings, I have wanted to visit and see it for myself. So, I am adding this to my bucket list!

Anyone been there or want to go with me? : )

You knew it was coming...New Year's Resolutions

Yes, I make New Year's Resolutions (really, it's just an excuse to make another list).

In 2009, I would like to...

1. Lose 30 pounds (many of you seem shocked at this revelation as though I will be "too" skinny. I will not--that is actually my normal, healthy, doctor-approved weight.)
2. Work on at least one homework project without procrastinating until the very last second.
3. Send Birthday cards to my close friends and family members.
4. Graduate!
5. Visit Jess in Europe.
6. Become a member of the Nevada Museum of Art (finally)
7. Cross at least two things off of my Bucket List
8. Get my camera fixed/learn how to use it/take more pictures
9. Get my first full time job!
10. When I go out to eat, take half of the meal home.
11. Look nice and put together everyday.
12. Visit a new city: Atlanta? : )

What are your New Year's Resolutions?

Hope you're having fun wherever you are!
